Pt. Niladri Kumar & Pt. Vijay Ghate performed live in Shanghai and Beijing during Chaiti Art Festival held in the month of May 2017. This year the festival also featured Bharatnatyam dance performance by noted Chinese artist – Jin Shan Shan.

Hailing from a lineage of five generations of Sitar Players, Niladri Kumar is a true global Icon. He trained under his father and Guru (teacher) Pandit Kartick Kumar, himself a disciple of the legendary Pandit Ravi Shankar. At the age of 6, Niladri Kumar gave his first public performance, and at the age of 15, released his first album.
Niladri Kumar strikes a balance between the classical and contemporary/ world music space. His prodigious musical style, his mastery over the Sitar, and his agile, magical fingers are a unique treat to behold. He is known as a brilliant and maverick musician, with a crossover appeal to orthodox and experimental music lovers. He strikes an instant rapport with audiences transcending all age and cultural barriers. He is indeed a pride of young India, and has been bestowed with several prestigious international awards. He also contributes tremendously to the Indian Film Industry.
Niladri performed at the 2010 Shanghai Expo at the invitation of China.
Vijay Ghate自3岁起学习演奏塔布拉鼓。他的天赋为他在年轻时便赢得了极富盛名的政府奖学金和学位。16岁起,他开始师从孟买的塔布拉鼓传奇大师Pandit Suresh Talwalkar。
自幼,Vijay Ghate便凭借才华横溢的个人独奏表演而为人所知。对于这一打击伴奏乐器的谙熟与热情使得他在印度古典音乐界内变得炙手可热,在三种主流艺术界(声乐伴奏、器乐表演和舞蹈伴奏)都是如此。Vijay Ghate因他丰富的想象力和创造力而闻名于世。清晰、敏捷和准确是他演奏风格的代名词。

Vijay Ghate began training in Tabla at the age of 3. His talent earned him prestigious government scholarships and degrees at a young age. When he was 16 he began his discipleship under the legendary Tabla maestro Pandit Suresh Talwalkar of Mumbai.
Vijay Ghate’s solo performances, and his adept percussion accompaniment have made him a favorite in India’s classical music world, and in all three streams of the Arts (Vocal music accompaniment, Instrumental music and Dance accompaniment). He is known for his brilliant imagination and creative mind. Clarity, dexterity and accuracy are the hallmark of his style.
Vijay Ghate has shared the stage with classical ‘Greats’ such as Ustad Bismillah Khan, Ustad Vilayat Khan, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, Pandit Birju Maharaj, Pandit Jasraj, and Ustad Shahid Parvez. He has also made his mark in World Music, Rock and Jazz, playing with outstanding international artists and groups – Jethro Tull, George Dukes, Coltrain, and frequently collaborating with Egberto Gismonti, Larry Coryell, George Brooks. He serves as Visiting Faculty at international institutions, and regularly participates in natmusic festivals. He has been honored for his contribution to classical music, including Government of India’s civilian award, Padmashree.
金珊珊是婆罗多舞舞蹈家,印度学学者,中国对外友协理事,世界民族音乐学会理事, 被媒体称为“中国印度舞第一人”。她的舞蹈曾屡获大奖和各种殊荣,更是得到了中印两国领导人的高度赞赏。此外,她还是一名研究员、舞蹈编导、专业舞蹈老师和媒体专家,曾多次受知名大学邀请作为客座教授进行讲学。
金珊珊自幼师从东方歌舞团印度舞蹈家张均和苏宝华,学习卡塔克舞、奥迪西舞。从北京大学毕业后,她前往印度追随经典婆罗多舞泰斗Leela Samson。1998年,她在印度新德里举办了第一场独舞晚会(Arangetram)。
金珊珊出色的编舞作品包括泰戈尔音乐舞蹈剧《齐德拉》(2012年),《东方舞蹈大师-张均纪念晚会》(2013年),以及将印度舞蹈与中国戏剧融合在一起的大型印度梵剧《璎珞传》(2014年)。
十年前,金珊珊在北京建立了乐舞婆娑印度舞蹈艺术中心,旨在为印度的古典艺术搭建交流平台并培养新一代的印度舞舞蹈家。她的学生遍及全国各地,在各项比赛中多次夺得金奖和第一名的好成绩。
她当之无愧是中印文化交流的民间大使。
Jin Shanshan is a Bharatnatyam danseuse and scholar of Indology. A member of both the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the Association for World Folk Music, she is known as “the first Chinese danseuse for Indian dance”. She has received numerous awards and honors, including personal appreciation from the leaders of China and India. She is a researcher, choreographer, a dedicated teacher, a regular media expert, as well as guest lecturer in several reputed universities.
Since her childhood, Jin Shanshan received training in Kathak and Odissi from two classical dance maestros in China Oriental Performing Arts Group: Zhang Jun and Su Baohua. After graduating from Peking University, she went to India to continue her training under Bharatnatyam maestro Leela Samson. In 1998, she held her Arangetram, first solo performance, in India.
Jin has several outstanding choreography and operatic compositions to her credit. Ten years ago, Jin Shanshan established Yue Wu Po Suo Indian Dance and Arts Center in Beijing, to create a cultural platform for Indian classical arts and to prepare the next generation. Jin’s students hail from all over the country, and have won gold awards in various competitions.
She is truly an ambassador for China-India cultural exchange.
