Indian Classical Music teams up with Jazz

IMG_6844Continuing the tradition started in 2013 , CHAITI ART FOUNDATION in association with The Consul General of India brought yet another group of extremely talented musicians to Shanghai. “ CHAITI music festival “ was organized at the iconic Shanghai Centre over the weekend on 13th & 14th June featuring Pt Sarathi Chatterjee, Pt Rupak Kulkarni , Pt Parimal Chakraborty , Purbayan Chatterjee , Sumit Mishra from India and five highly popular local artists , Alec haavik , Gregory Smith , Pan Li , Dai Guo & Fred Grenade for a fusion Jazz session which hit the highest point of the festival & thunderous applause by audience proving how music of different continents can come together as one piece of pure delight.

Spread across two days, the first day focused on instrumental music featuring FLUTE & SITAR supported by TABLA . The second days started with vocal rendition by Pt Sarathi Chatterjee who started with evening melody and concluded with a popular Thumri. The second half of the program was a fusion session where visiting artists performed with local Jazz artists from Shanghai. This session was aimed at bringing in local Chinese, western and Indian musicians together to showcase how music of different region can combine together.
